The IMF and the Bank of Algeria to Hold High-Level Conference on North Africa: Connecting Continents, Creating Opportunities on February 5, 2026
Global economic shifts, energy transitions, and rapid technological change are reshaping the economic landscape in North Africa. Located between Europe’s industrial demand and Africa’s growing population, the region has an opportunity to act as a connector—linking markets, encouraging investment, and supporting inclusive growth.
Greater regional economic integration can help unlock this potential. Strengthening trade ties, optimizing resources, and moving up global value chains will build resilience and create shared prosperity across North Africa, Europe, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Within this framework, we are pleased to announce the high-level conference ‘North Africa: Connecting Continents, Creating Opportunities,’ co-organized by the IMF and the Bank of Algeria. The event will take place in Algiers on February 5, 2026, bringing together policymakers, private sector leaders, and international financial institutions to discuss strategies for advancing economic cooperation and leveraging the region’s comparative advantages.
The conference will feature opening remarks by Sifi Ghrieb, Prime Minister of Algeria, and Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director at the IMF, followed by panel discussions on regional connectivity and trade, leveraging the energy sector, and the role of international financial institutions in supporting integration and growth.
