Foncham Innocent Assistant Head Teacher and class 6 teacher Maarif Foundation
Sixth-grade students from Maarif School recently attended the plenary session of the National Assembly. This Turkish school, based in Yaoundé and with branches in the regions, provides education to the very young. Its unique feature is the combination of theory and practice. Our press agency met with its administration to shed light on the school’s recent activities.
What explains your students’ recent visit to the National Assembly of Cameroon?
It was an honor for Maarif Foundation to visit the new Cameroonian Parliament building. The old one, which was swept away by the flame, was rebuilt and inaugurated this year. The three regular sessions take place there every three months. Thankfully, they were ready to welcome the CM2 students. All our lessons are accompanied by practical phases. We spoke to our students about the National Assembly and its various sessions. This time, we were lucky enough to have participated live in a session of the National Assembly last March. We were well received, and the children discovered the hemicycle.
What are the benefits of such a visit for the school?
Many parents couldn’t imagine that such a school could have access to the National Assembly. It’s just to demonstrate the hospitable nature of Cameroonian institutions. This visit enhanced the school’s image. The children were proud; they attended the plenary session and went home to write the minutes. Some even dream of one day becoming a member of parliament or even president of the National Assembly.
You organized IFTAR in March 2025. What is it?
It’s a period that marks the end of the fast of the month of Ramadan for Muslims. At the end of the day, they eat dates and drink water. Two sessions were organized. All staff were invited. Although I am not Muslim, here at Maarif Foundation, we organized lunches; the first was in Istanbul.
