Venue: Juba, South Sudan
Strengthening Education Data Systems in South Sudan under the KIX Africa 19 Hub
From 16-18 March 2026, the African Union’s Pan-African Institute of Education for Development (AU-IPED) will lead a technical workshop to Juba, South Sudan, to support the strengthening of the country’s Education Management Information System (EMIS). The mission is implemented under the Global Partnership for Education’s Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) programme, a joint initiative with Canada’s International Development Research Center (IDRC), which promotes knowledge sharing and innovation to strengthen education systems across Africa.
The workshop responds to a request from the Ministry of General Education and Instruction of South Sudan and aims to enhance the country’s capacity to collect, manage, and use education data for evidence-based planning and decision-making. Reliable education data is critical for monitoring national education sector plans and advancing continental and global commitments, including the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) 2026-2035 and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).
Over the three-day engagement, AU-IPED will conduct technical consultations, an EMIS systems assessment, and targeted capacity-building sessions for data management officers. Discussions will focus on strengthening EMIS governance, improving data quality and workflows, and identifying priority areas for system improvement.
Key Objectives of the Mission
- Develop technical recommendations for strengthening South Sudan’s national Education Management Information System (EMIS), based on the assessment of current systems, processes, and institutional arrangements.
- Strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange between AU-IPED, KIX partners, and the Ministry of General Education and Instruction to support coordinated efforts in improving education data systems.
- Support the development of more robust education data systems that enhance the collection, management, and use of education data for effective policy formulation, sector planning, monitoring, and accountability across the education sector. Stay connected with AU-IPED and the KIX Africa 19 Hub for updates on other initiatives supporting African countries to strengthen education data systems and promote evidence-based education policy and planning across the continent.
